National Farmers Day

National Farmers Day is celebrated on 23 December on every year. National Farmer’s Day is also known as Rashtriya Kisan Diwas. The day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mr. Choudhary Charan Singh, Mr. Choudhary Charan Singh is the fifth Prime Minister of India. Farmer’s Day is also observed in other parts of world. It is celebrated on the first Friday of December in Ghana, USA celebrates it on 12 October, in Zambia it is observed on the first Monday of the August and Pakistan started celebrating the day on 18 December from 2019.

National Farmers Day

India is known as a country of village and agricultural surpluses. Also, almost 50% of the people depend on agriculture for their livelihoods and form the majority of the country’s rural population.

Farmers Day is generally celebrated by organising awareness campaigns and drives across the country to educate people on the role of farmers and their contribution to the economy. Farmer’s Day is used to focus on providing farmers with the most up to date agricultural knowledge to increase their yield. Rastriya Kisan Diwas is observed to recognise the devotion and sacrifice of farmers.

Shri Choudhary Charan Singh coming from an agricultural family, he was a proponent of rural and agricultural development. He made continuous efforts to keep agriculture at the centre of planning for India. While serving as agriculture minister in 1952 , he led UP in its efforts to abolish the Zamindari system. Shri Choudhary Charan Singh is known for his eloquence and courage of conviction.

Farmer’s Day is celebrated by organising various programs, debates, seminars, quiz competitions, discussions, workshops, exhibitions, essay writing competitions, and functions.

National Farmer’s Day is observed to honour and acknowledge the contribution of farmers in our lives.

This day is celebrated annually on December 23, National Farmers Day honours the efforts of farmers who play a critical role in ensuring food security and sustaining the economy. This day is not just about acknowledging their contributions  but also about addressing the challenges faced by the farming community and advocating for better conditions and support.

Every year, National Farmers Day 2024 theme will likely focus on issues that directly impact the agricultural community.

Theme 2024- Sustainable Farming Practices, Doubling Farmers Income, and Technology in Agriculture.
