World Health Day (WHO) is celebrated on 7th April in every year. This day is a global health awareness day. In 1948, the WHO held the first World Health Assembly. The World Health Day is held to mark WHO’s founding and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. The WHO organizes international, regional and local events on the day related to a particular theme.
In 1948, countries of the world came together and founded WHO to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health and well being. WHO’s 75th anniversary year is an opportunity to look back at public health successes that have improved quality of life during the last seven decades. It is also an opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenge of today and tomorrow.
World Health Day is a global campaign, inviting everyone from global leaders to the public in all countries to focus on a health change with global impact. By focusing on new and emerging health issues , World Health Day provides an opportunity to start collective action to protest people’s health and well being.
The theme of 2024 was “My health My right” . This year theme was choosen to campion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services , education and information as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions , and freedom from discrimination.

World Health Day is one of 11 official global health campaigns marked by WHO, along with World Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day , World No Tabacco Day, World AIDS Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Chagas Disease Day, World Patient Safety Day, World Antimicrobial Awareness Week and World Hepatitis Day.
