The Government of India celebrates 21st April every year as Civil Services Day in India.National Civil Services Day is an occasion dedicated to acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of civil servants in the development of India. This date is chosen to commemorate the day when first Home Minister of Independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the probationers of Administrative Service Officers in 1947 at Metcalf House, Delhi, he referred to civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India ‘. The first such functions was held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi 21 April 2006.
As part of Civil Servant Day, Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in public Administration are presented to Districts/Implementing units for implementation of Priority program and innovation categories. With participation from a large number of Districts across the country in the Awards scheme, the scale of entire process is very large.These awards on the Civil Services Day each year bring together civil servants to connect with each other and learn the good practices being implemented across the nation in the field of public grievance. This annual affair is eagerly awaited by all public administrators to celebrate outcomes of work done in the entire year.
On this day, civil servants are recognised for their hard work and dedication towards serving the people. It’s also an acknowledgment of the important role they play in the country’s administration.
India celebrate its 17th National Civil Services Day on 21st April to honour the role of civil servants in maintaining the nation’s law and order, ensuring good governance and promoting social justice. Each year this event is organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and pensions and serves several crucial purposes. According to DARPG, it aims to motivate Civil Servant officers to rededicate themselves to cause of citizens and renew their commitments to public service and excellence in work.
