National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January, it is also known as Vivekananda Jayanti. In 1984, the government of India declared this day as National Youth Day since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.
The National Youth Day is observed all over India at schools and colleges, with processions, speeches, music, youth conventions, seminars, yogasan, presentations , compititions in essay writing, recitations and sports on 12 January every year. Swami Vivekanand’s lectures and writing deriving their inspiration from Indian spiritual tradition and the broad outlook of his Master Sri Ramkrishna Paramhans. These were the source of inspiration and have motivated numerous youth organisations, study circles and service projects involving the youth.
Swami Vivekananda is the great philosopher of the youth in India. He was born on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata. The Government of India observes January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, as the National Youth Day. To quote from a Government communication: it was felt that the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great source of inspiration for the Indian youth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Youth Festival at Nashik , Maharashtra on 12 January 2024. The Theme of the National Youth Festival this year is – My Bharat Vikshit Bharat 2047. The theme of the National Youth Day 2025 is: ‘Arise, Awake, and realize the power You hold’.
Swami Vivekananda is one of the India’s greatest spiritual and social leaders. He saw hope for the future in every child and believed that with muscles of iron and nerves of steel they could bring about social change. Swami himself personified the enternal energy of the youth and a restless quest for truth.
The National Youth conference is a platform to discuss, disseminate and deliberate on the possible plans, targets and solutions must be generated and implemented by our youth in order to enhance their effective participation and role in nation building.
