Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been serving as the Prime Minister of India since 2014. Narendra Modi is an Indian politician. He was born on 17 September 1950 in Gujrat. Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. He is a member of Bhartiya Janata Party and of the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a right wing Hindu nationalist paramilitary volunteer organisation. He is the longest serving Prime Minister outside the Indian National Congress.
Narendra Modi completed his higher secondary education in Vadnagar in 1967. His teachers described him as an average student. He preferred playing larger than life characters in theatrical productions, which has influenced his political image. When Narendra Modi was 8 year old, he was introduced to the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In 1978, Modi recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the School of Open learning at the Delhi University. In 1983, he received a Master of Arts degree in political science from Gujarat University, graduating with a first class as an external distance learning student. There is a controversy surrounding the authenticity of his BA and MA degrees.
In June 1975, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India that lasted until 1977. During this period Narendra Modi was appointed general secretary of the Gujarat Lok Sangharsh Samiti, an RSS committee coordinating opposition to the emergency in Gujarat.
The first ever Prime Minister to be born after Independence, Shri Modi has previously served as the Prime Minister of India from 2014 to 2019 and from 2019 to 2024. Shri Narendra Modi was sworn in as India’s Prime Minister for the third time on 9th June 2024, following another decisive victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections. He also has the distinction of being the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat with his term spanning from October 2001 to May 2014.
