World Hindi Day is celebrated on 10 January on every year. World Hindi Day is also known as Vishwa Hindi Diwas annually observed on 10 January. World Hindi Day was founded to commemorate the date in 1949 when hindi was first spoken in the UNGA( United Nations General Assembly). World Hindi day is an opportunity to celebrate Hindi as a universal language. The Day also emphasized developing a passion for the language and valuing the contributions of hindi speakers. It is used to raise awareness of use of the Indian language as well as the ongoing problems with Hindi usage and problems.
In India, 43.63 percent of people speak Hindi, making it the most common language, according to the 2011 census. Whereas 430 million people speak Hindi as there first language globally.
The first World Hindi conference was held in 1975 in Nagpur, India. Since, then 11 such conferences have been organised in different parts of the world. Several exhibitions related to the development of Hindi language will be organised at the conference venue. Cultural programmes and Kavi sammelan is was organised by Indian Council for cultural relations, New Delhi during the conference.
Hindi scholars from India and other countries were honoured with Vishwa Hindi Samman for their special contribution in the field of hindi.
The National Hindi Day is celebrated every year on India 14 September. The purpose of this day is to create awareness about the Indian language and promote it as a global language around the world. It is also used to create awareness about the usage of the Indian language and about the issues persisting around the usage and promotion of the Hindi language.
Hindi got its name from the Persian word Hind, meaning ‘ land of the Indus River’. It is official language of India. Hindi is also spoken in some countries outside India, such as Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana and Nepal. Hindi in its present form emerged through different stages, during which it was known a romantic play in Apabhramsa called Vikramorvashiyam.
